Surface arsenic-related pollutants enter the ground water system by gradually moving with the flow of ground water from rains, melting of snow, etc. Arsenic won’t affect the taste or smell of drinking water enough to call attention to such contamination. Like many contaminants in drinking water, arsenic is potentially hazardous at levels or concentrations that do not impart a noticeable taste, odor, or appearance to the water. Arsenic is not easily dissolved in water. Therefore, if it is found in a water supply, it usually comes from mining or metallurgical operations or from runoff from agricultural areas where materials containing arsenic were used as industrial poisons. Arsenic in water has no color, taste or odor. Arsenic and phosphate easily substitute for one another chemically, therefore commercial grade phosphate can have some arsenic in it. Arsenic is highly toxic and has been classified by the US EPA as a carcinogen, which was derived from toxicity considerations rather than carcinogenicity. The current MCL for arsenic is 0.010 mg/l as of 01/23/06. Information about arsenic in water can be found on the US Environmental Protection Agency website . Arsenic is a semi-metal element that has no taste, odor, or color, and is not easily dissolved. It occurs naturally in the environment, as a by-product of mining, or agricultural areas when materials containing arsenic are used as industrial poisons. Arsenic is considered highly toxic and a carcinogen. Tank 2: SMART Series system provides Filtration & a Balanced pH In addition to the the specialty Arsenic Removal capability, our SMART Filters use our special house blend known as SMART Multimedia , which includes 2 types of coconut shell Granulated Activated Carbons ( Standard & Catalytic GAC) infused with our Eagle Redox Alloys® 6500 & 9500 , and ion exchange resin to reduce contaminants such as heavy metals, i.e. lead & mercury, chlorine, chloromine, & inorganic products such as herbicides, pesticides, petroleum/pharmaceutical by-products and achieve a balanced pH. To read about how GAC's work, click here . To read about the ERA® Oxidation/Reduction Process, click here . Water travels through 6 stages of filtration Stage 1: Water flows through a 20" sediment filter cartridge that removes sediment, silt, sand and dirt. Also extends the life of the water softener and water filters and prevents damage to control valves or pumps. Stage 2: Water flows through an Arsenic reducing mineral tank with ERA® 6500 & 9500 to prevent bacteria growth. Stages 3, 4 & 5: Water flows through our SMART blend of 2 types of coconut shell Granulated Activated Carbons (GAC), ERA® 6500 & 9500 & an ion exchange resin mineral tank which removes hundreds of contaminants. All Crystal Quest® GAC is a mixed blend of coconut shell and catalytic GAC to address both chlorine, chloramines and these byproducts. Stage 6: Water flows through a 20" solid carbon cartridge for removing volatile organic carbon compounds (VOC's), insecticides, pesticides and industrial solvents.* Eaglesorb Arsenic Oxide Replacement Media 42 / 61 OUR GUARANTEED PERFORMANCE * All parts, components and media are NSF Certified
